Ferrari launches the all-new Portofino – their flagship V8 GT.

Date Posted: February 26, 2018

Scuderia South Africa hosted a private viewing of their all-new Ferrari Portofino last Friday and THE TORQUE was there to see this beauty in the flesh. Running the risk of sounding cliché, saying that this car is magnificent is a total understatement.

Whilst the all-new V8 GT might not compare to the brand’s top performance models, it does reveal Ferrari’s new design language and that’s something not to be taken lightly. Essentially, if you’re lucky enough to own one of these high-performance cars, you won’t only be driving a highly dynamic sports car, featuring a Ferrari’s sublime engine and chassis technology; you will be driving the latest in Ferrari fashion!

It’s a new look we absolutely love. In Ferrari’s own words, “it strikes the sweet spot between aggression and elegance”. We love how the car converts itself from an aggressive coupe’ to a stylish fabulous drop-top in just 14 seconds. The lines coming off the front wheel arches are a particular favourite. The right-hand drive variant will be released in Q3 this year and Ferrari is confident the Portofino will continue to dominate the segment.

Key highlights include:

  • A 3.9l V8 turbo engine that produces 441kW at 7500rpm and 760Nm between 3000 – 5250rom
  • A 7-speed F1 styled dual-clutch transmission
  • A range of traction control mechanisms including Ferrari’s famous E-diff, but also for the first time, Variable Boost Management, controlling maximum torque per gear.

The above seamlessly combines together to produce some eye-watering performance figures. The Portofino doesn’t feature any active-aero parts, but with figures like these, who needs them!
